CARRIE B. DOHE, PhD"We have been working with Dr. Carrie Dohe since 2014. As part of the qualification of young scientists at the University of Stuttgart, she has given courses on the topics ‘Academic Writing and Publishing Research Articles in the Life Sciences and Natural Sciences’, ‘Academic Presentation and Conference English Skills’, ‘Academic Reading and Study Skills’ and ‘Time and Self-Management for Doctoral Students and Researchers’. Dr. Dohe has excellent knowledge in the fields of scientific writing and publishing, academic work and self-organization. The knowledge imparted was of great benefit to the participants for their courses. As an American, Dr. Dohe could give the participants valuable tips and suggestions on the linguistic level that make scientific writing in English more effective."

TESTIMONIALSProfessional Presentations
“Last Thursday I held a 10-minute presentation of my PhD thesis at a meeting of the Department of Nutrition and Facility Management of the Munster University of Applied Sciences. My supervisor told me I really impressed the dean. So, the presentation the week before in your class was the perfect preparation for that. I am really glad I had the chance to practice there.”

Conference Preparation
“Ms. Dohe knew how to create a pleasant learning atmosphere in which the skills acquired could be strengthened. She competently accompanied the learning process with constructive comments and was able to respond to the individual needs of the participants. It was also very helpful that Dr. Dohe incorporated her own experience as an active scholar into the course. For anyone who would like to improve their ability to present themselves adequately at international conferences, I can strongly recommend participating in this course.”

Successful Academic and Postdoctoral Applications for the International Academy
"I attended Dr. Carrie Dohe’s workshop on “Successful Academic and Postdoctoral Applications for the International Academy” through GRADE – Goethe Research Academy for Early Career Researchers in October 2024. It was one of the best workshops I have ever attended. I was impressed by the support and realism Dr. Dohe brought to the whole classroom, how well she dealt with people with different backgrounds and with different needs, and her critical point of view, making us realize that we need to be ourselves. She really tailored the workshop to the needs of each participant, with very flexible content, something that is not seen frequently in academia. It was very apparent that Dr. Dohe wanted the best for the workshop participants.
Dr. Dohe’s attention to detail was exemplary, as she analyzed examples of cover letters and CVs to illustrate best practices. I was also very thankful for Dr. Dohe’s willingness to share all her materials that she herself produced or were based on her own experience. The biggest take-home message that I immediately used was Dr. Dohe’s "after-the-interview thank you message". Following this advice, I sent a thank-you message to a recruiter, who, although unable to currently hire me, volunteered to put me in contact with other potential employers. I would highly recommend this workshop to other academic job seekers, but also to anyone with an academic background who is or plans to be in the job market."
